Social Media Etiquette – Do’s and Don’ts
Had a great interview this week with Howard Yermish, of Kokua Technologies about knowing the basics of posting on social media. How it’s important to understand the culture of LinkedIn, facebook and Twitter. Here’s a few do’s and don’ts…
Never Do This:
1. Fighting. Don’t start fights with others online. People will begin to avoid your posts like the plague, for fear that they’ll be your next target.
2. Hiding. If your business or product screwed up – say so. Don’t hide; admit it. Give the truth, before others start talking for you.
3. Humor. If you’re poking fun at someone – make sure it’s pointed at yourself. Don’t make fun at someone else’s expense.
4. Stealing. Don’t take creative content or photos from other sites.
Always Do This:
1. What Can I Do For You? Instead of thinking ‘what can these people do for me?’ switch it around. Go first – give something of value.
2. Lift People Up. Write about other people – share good information with others. They in turn, will do the same for you.
3. Be Knowledgeable. Share good content, pass along tips, invite feedback. That’s what social media is all about.
