Best Practices in Summertime Marketing for Professionals
When the weather is at it’s best, it’s tempting to just ‘write off’ the summer months and head to the shore. But that’s three months of cooling your heels at the beach – one-quarter of the year. The better thing to do is take advantage of this ‘off time’ to ramp up your marketing – when others aren’t. My guest, Kimberly Rice a marketing expert for attorneys, shared some tips geared towards professionals (accountants, lawyers, consultants, financial advisors, doctors, dentists) on ways to pump up your marketing presence this summer – including a few that you can do while sitting in your beach chair!
Q: Is it OK to kick back and wear casual clothes if you’re a professional? Everyone else seems to be wearing flip flops and shorts in the summer.
A: That’s a definite no for professionals. Image matters all year round – you should look the part.
Q: What should my top focus be in the summer months?
A: Focus on your top clients, stay top of mind, impress them, and go the extra mile.
Q: Should I network in the summer? It seems like everyone’s on vacation.
A: Yes definitely. Not everyone is on vacation, as much as it may seem that way. If you’re committed to your profession – show it. Stay connected with meetings, social media, etc. Join a group, whether it’s a law group, your child’s sports team, the gym or a committee you feel passionate about.
Q: What’s an important skill set that I should focus on?
A: It’s important to have ‘soft skills’ – how to network, communicate, engage others. All of these skills are necessary for developing new business relationships, which can lead to new clients.
Q: What can I work on from my beach chair?
A: Social media – brush up your LinkedIn profile, review your connections and who they know. If you do speaking engagements, do some research on where you’d like to speak and contact those groups. Write an article. Join groups via LinkedIn or listservs. Commit to a blog. Connect with colleagues you have lost touch with.
