How To Talk About COVID-19

I’m hearing from business owners and leaders who are unsure how to approach the subject of COVID-19 and the uncertainty it brings on all levels.

Unsure of What to Say. Business advisors (such as accountants, wealth advisors and lawyers) say there is so much info pouring in every day, they don’t know what to tell their customers. They don’t want to confuse or give misinformation. Some aren’t doing anything.

Don’t let ‘analysis paralysis’ sink in. In this unstable time, it’s OK to say ‘things are crazy right now. I’m not sure what the right answer is, but here’s what I know right now.’ Share what you know. Information is valuable and people are hungry for it. Be the trusted advisor you are. Show your value. What you do for your clients in the midst of a crisis will be remembered for years to come.

People are ultra-focused right now. It’s not a great time to be selling. Instead – connect. Give. Inform. Share.
Remember that giving comes in many forms:

  • Knowlege
  • Assistance
  • Money (ie: gift cards)
  • Empathy
  • Good wishes and prayers

Be Thoughtful. These are sensitive times. Deliver your message in the same way. Be caring. Good deeds and thoughtful words are appreciated and will be remembered.
