Keep Clients by Saying Thanks Today

Keep Clients by Saying Thanks Today

We’ve heard many a business owner say that they are nothing without their customers. Gratitude isn’t something you should keep to yourself – share it. And particularly at this time of year, make sure your clients feel it from you.

If you don’t have a client gratitude plan ready to go, here are some of our own favorites:

1. Call. The phone is certainly underused these days, so hearing from you out of the blue will definitely stand out. It lets your client know you are thinking about them, even when you don’t have to.
2. Write a note. Your mother was right. Sending a note may take a little more time, which is exactly what it conveys – that they are worth it.
3. Send a gift. This is a great way to differentiate yourself by personalizing a gift to your client’s business and/or interests. You can do this any time of year too, including holidays, birthdays, anniversaries  – or even unusual days, like Oreo cookie day.
4. Gift a good read. Is there an interesting book that you think they would like? Send it, along with a note.
5. Spotlight customers. Want to make your client smile for a month? Did any of your clients win an award or expand into a new territory? Share that news in your own company newsletter or on your social media feeds.
6. High-Five. Reward social media savvy customers by giving them some online love in return.
7. Spend time together. Grab lunch, or just a hot chocolate. Chat about their interests, their family, and their goals for the year ahead.
8. Host an event. It doesn’t have to be grand, or even right around the holidays. Consider a post-holiday gathering. It’s unique and will help you stand out.
9. Offer specials/discounts. Leverage the excitement of Black Friday and offer a special or two of your own during the holiday season.

There’s an old saying that people may not remember what you said, but they remember how you made them feel. Not only does giving thanks make you feel good – it tells the recipient how much you appreciate them. A win-win.
